Ellen Christina (Norberg) Nordenstrom of Mora died Tues., July 1, 2003, at Trevilla of New Brighton Nursing Home. She was 84 years old.
She was born on April 18, 1919, in Grass Lake Township, MN, to Gustoff and Sarah (Neslund) Norberg. She came from a large family of 15 brothers and sisters. Her childhood was spent mostly in the Grasston area on a large farm. She said that her family was lucky to be one of the first to have electricity and plumbing in the area. She attended school in Grass Lake and then Mora where she skipped a grade or two and graduated with honors.
She met her husband, Everett, at a barn dance and after dating for couple of years, they were united in marriage on Jan. 8, 1938. They lived in Mora all of their married life except for short time in the state of Washington. The last few years they spent winters in Chandler, AZ, where they thoroughly enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine.
She was the proud and devoted mother of four children. She was very active in their various school activities and enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader, helping put on the band pop concert and volunteering for various other civic functions. When all of her children were in school, she went to work at the Sportsmen's Café for eight years and then managed the clubhouse at the Mora Golf Course.
Her grandchildren couldn't have loved her more. She made a point to be a part of their lives and was thrilled when they would request special meals or cookies. Then months ago, she was blessed with one of the greatest joys of her life, her great-grandson. Nothing was more special to her than his visits.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jim; and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband; children; grandchildren; great-grandson; and stepgrandchildren; brother; sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Mon., July 7 at Mora United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kevin Dunn officiated. Music was provided by Maree Nordenstrom and Barb Seaton.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
Final disposition was by cremation.
Arrangements were by Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
