Historical Markers in Ogle County, Illinois

The Galena Road, Ogle County, Illinois

In the early 1830's pioneer traf-
fic moving north from Peoria
crowded primitive trails and
forced a direct route to Galena.
In 1833 Levi Warner's state survey
marked the Galena Road. It cut
through this schoolyard. Private
Abraham Lincoln passed this
site June 13, 1832 in Captain
Elijah Iles's Black Hawk War
company.

Erected by
the Polo Historical Society
and
the Illinois State Historical Society, 1964
